Heather Morris grew up in California and represented the Area VI Young Rider Team in 1998 and 1999, bringing home Team Gold in 1999. The following year she finish 11th at the inaugural Foxhall Cup CCI3* and won the Markham Trophy for the Highest Placed Young Rider. In 2002 Heather went to work for past USEA President and United States Head of Selectors Mike Huber at his Gold Chip Stables in Bartonville TX.
In 2004, Heather tackled the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day event for the first time with Rebel Express, but unfortunately had to withdraw before show jumping due to a heart condition that became apparent after cross-country.
The following year, Kambalda Land LLC purchased a horse by the name of Genial who earned numerous accolades with Heather in tack, including Preliminary Horse of the Year and completing the Galway Downs International CCI1* in 2006, and completing the CCI2* at Colorado Horse Park and the CCI2* at Galway Downs International in 2007.
In 2008, the Team Express Syndicate purchased Slate River. He was 2nd at The AECs, won two CIC2*, was 2nd in a CCI2*, won a CIC3* and was 11th at the Fair Hill International CCI3*. In 2011, he and Heather went on to finish Rolex Kentucky CCI4* in 22nd and in 2012 tackled Rolex again.
First Mark, owned by Lynne and Andy Partridge, was also very successful with Heather. He seemed to always be in Roe’s shadow, finishing 2nd behind him many times, but he did win the Advanced at Rebecca Farm, was 2nd in the Poplar Place CIC3*, and was 18th in the Galways Downs International CCI3* in 2011. After several injuries, he is now teaching kids at the lower levels.
Charlie Tango joined Team Express in 2012. Charlie won the Training Three-Day at Rebecca Farm in 2013 and moved up to the Preliminary level in 2014, and was named the Preliminary Horse Champion at the American Eventing Championships that year. In 2015 Charlie competed at the Intermediate level with great success, finishing in the top 3 at several Two-Stars, including winning the CCI2* at both Twin Rivers and Rebecca Farm, and was named the Intermediate Champion at the AECs. At the end of the 2015 season, Charlie was awarded the Connaught Grant and was named the USEA Intermediate Horse of the Year. In 2016, Charlie Tango went on to win his first CIC3* at the Copper Meadows International event. They then followed up with another impressive performance at the September Copper Meadows event finishing in 2nd place in the CIC3* division. Heather and Charlie Tango were awarded the 2016 Land Rover Travel Grant to compete at Fair Hill International.
In 2014, The Team Express Group welcomed Get Rowdy. He placed in the top 5 at several Training level events in 2015, including placing 2nd in the Training Three-Day at Rebecca Farm and was named the Training Horse Champion at the American Eventing Championships. In 2016, Get Rowdy has moved up to the CIC1* with great success finishing 1st at his first CCI1*. Rowdy continues to impress and finished with another 1st place finish in the CIC1* at the September Copper Meadows event! Continuing their winning streak, Rowdy and Heather placed 1st in the Preliminary Championship division at Twin Rivers in September. In November 2016, Heather and Rowdy finished 3rd in the CCI1* division at Galway Downs International.
Heather started 2017 with big wins in the Intermediate at the Fresno County Horse Park. She won the Intermediate with Charlie Tango and finished 6th with Get Rowdy. At Twin Rivers Winter H.T. she finished 5th with Charlie Tango in the Advanced. In March, Heather rode Get Rowdy and Charlie Tango to second place finishes in the CIC3* and CIC2* at Galway Downs International Horse Trials on their dressage scores!
Heather is a talented rider whose skill and dedication to the sport have yielded much success and recognition. She is the only person to win the Amanda Warrington Grant twice, was awarded a grant as an up-and-coming rider to go watch Burghley, and she has been on the Developing Riders list consistently the past several years. After 13 years of working for Mike Huber at Gold Chip Stables and operating under name of Team Express Eventing for the past several years, Heather has moved back to California to join Tamie Smith and Next Level Eventing out of Tucolata Creek Ranch in Temecula, CA.
